Unveiled in 2023 on Boston Common, The Embrace memorializes the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, who met in Boston and launched their shared pursuit of justice. Designed by Hank Willis Thomas, the sculpture centers love, solidarity, and collective action. Surrounded by a plaza honoring 69 local civil rights leaders, the site invites reflection on Boston’s role in the ongoing pursuit of racial equity.
