Unbound: A Memorial to Enslaved Persons at King’s Chapel
Downtown, Boston

Unveiled in 2025 Unbound reflects King’s Chapel’s commitment to acknowledge and respond to its history of slavery and racial injustice. Founded in 1686, King’s Chapel is among Boston’s oldest religious institutions, and this memorial marks a critical moment of reckoning within that long history. The memorial honors at least 219 children, women, and men who were enslaved by past ministers and members of the congregation. Created by artist Harmonia Rosales, Unbound stands as an embodiment of freedom and serves as a site for reflection, a catalyst for conversation, an inspiration for activism, and a beacon of hope.
